Arresting developments

Last week, Congressman Rangel and ex-mayor Dinkins found themselves in handcuffs after protesting the Diallo shooting; members of the gay community were arrested in demonstrations against police brutality, the murder of a gay man in Alabama, and the exclusionary policies of the St. Patrick's Day parade. What fires you up?

What was the last protest you participated in?I was at the one on Monday, the gay and lesbian protest.

What's your most important cause?I just believe in humanity. If anyone— you— I don't know you, but if you got shot 41 times, I'd go out and protest.

Would you be willing to get arrested? It was funny. Monday, I could've been arrested, but I wasn't. But after seeing all this and what's happened, I'd be willing.

What was the last protest you participated in?I haven't. I just feel very often they're mob scenes. But that doesn't mean I don't believe. The Diallo thing was horrible.

What's your most important cause?I'm Jewish and I'm involved in pro-Israel causes.

Would you be willing to get arrested?I don't know if I'm willing to be arrested for any cause. I don't know if it does any good.

What was the last protest you participated in? Not in this city. It was some time ago. Peace demonstration in the early '80s.

What's your most important cause? From my point of view, as a Norwegian in America, racial equality and integration of immigrants into our country. We're far behind compared to the States in that.

Would you be willing to get arrested?I think so. It's easy to say it though.

What was the last protest you participated in?No. I'm not big on crowds. I don't want to be in the middle of trouble.

What's your most important cause?I guess the biggest one is just, well, idealistically a guarantee that we'd all be treated fairly.

Would you be willing to get arrested? No. I don't wish to be arrested. I don't want to be locked in jail. I need big open spaces. I'll voice my opinions in other ways.
