Le Petomane

Le Petomane
Directed by Igor Vamos
Beery college slobs in tears over their own and each other's rectal trumpetings should be delighted to learn of their lifestyle's high cultural heritage, as seen in Igor Vamos's Le Petomane. Subtitled "Fin de Siecle Fartiste," it's the long-untold—and completely fabricated—story of Joseph Pujol, a handsome and unpretentious everyman in Belle Epoque Paris who turned his musical wind-breaking talents into the cabaret sensation of his era. Because there are no extant recordings of Pujol's genius, Vamos's relaxed essay covers the artistic legacy of farting (Bosch! Shakespeare! Satie!) and throws in an archive's worth of unrelated early footage. Hollywood remake rights are available—might we suggest Alec Baldwin?
