The ranter of the moment is Lewis Black. With saliva flying as fast as his insults, Black goes on a two-minute diatribe virtually every night on his Back in Black segment on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central. He will be performing at the John Drew Theater at Guild Hall Saturday. He recently ranted to Bill Jensen:
Dennis Miller has a tendency to go to a catalog type of rant. Leary is more anger-driven. My source is more frustration. An I've-reached-the-end-of-my-rope rant.
What are the key elements to a good rant?
You have to nail something very specific and put it in a larger context. Take Al Roker and put him in the context of weathermen everywhere and liars everywhere. He's basically why our culture is a hellhole. You can tell he doesn't know what he is talking about.
Who is the worst human being on the planet?
It's probably Milosevic. Milosevic or Saddam Hussein.
Worse than Roker?
Well, yeah. I've got some sense of proportion.
Jon Stewart or Craig Kilborne. Who's better in bed?
They are both good, together. When we watch.
Here's the torture test for the ranter: I'm going to give you five things that you can only say one word about.
I wanna say "twat."
Republican presidential frontrunners who did coke.
