WBAI: Supporters Take Their Fight to the Streets

Where and How to Join the Revolt

Wista Jeanne Johnson

Tuesday, January 16th 2001

The corporate coup at New York City's progressive radio station WBAI 99.5 FM nearly one month ago has left several longtime staffers out of work and banned from the Wall Street studios. (see: WBAI Fights Management's Move to Turn the Station into NPR Lite) Now supporters are firing back, working to "reclaim WBAI."

To this end, the group Concerned Friends of WBAI is organizing the following events:

Wednesday, January 17: noon press conference outside WBAI studios at 120 Wall Street, followed by a mass demonstration from 4 to 6 p.m.

Friday, January 19: noon rally in front of the offices of Pacifica's law firm, Epstein, Becker & Green, 1227 25th Street, NW, Washington, D.C.

Sunday, January 21: 1 p.m. rally at Pacifica's national headquarters, 2390 Champlain Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
