Porn, Chicken, and Boy Toys

After lunch, most of us crammed into a small room for the screening of a short tranny sex video called Public Pansexual Porn produced by London-based photographer and gender variant artist Del LaGrace Volcano. The premise of the film was simple: Del and his buddy Hans, both trans men, decided to go out to gay cruising areas in London and see if they could get guys to have sex with them on camera. As Del said, "Our idea has always been to include ourselves in the pursuit of pleasure as well as the means of production." Surprisingly (to the filmmakers most of all), they got some action, and we get to see it in its grainy, hand-held (the camera, I mean) splendor. Del said the film's scenes didn't last long enough to make for good porno, but I disagreed as I snuck off to the powder room.

There I was in a handicap accessible bathroom stall at UC Santa Barbara, skirt pushed up, tights pulled down, grappling with the, um, politics of my queer desire and why tranny-gay porn makes me hot. No hype, no media frenzy, just a conference of radical queers, drag kings, and homemade pornography. Mmmm . . . I liked the taste of that secret recipe.
