Paintings of Bicycles

SATURDAY, MAY 12

Kings County Chronometer
(8 a.m.; meet at Brooklyn Borough Hall. Rain date May 13)
This ride is a tour of historical Brooklyn neighborhoods and sights. Moderate pace, 45 miles, mostly flat. Presented by the Five Borough Bike Club, 212-932-2300, ext. 115, and the Brooklyn Historical Society.

Rolling on the Spot
(6:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Rock Star Bar, 351 Kent Avenue at South 5th Street)
Watch NYC's fastest bike messengers square off against any and all takers in indoor "Gold Sprint" bike races. The racing ends at 9:30 p.m., but live music and DJs will continue into the night. Valet bike parking. Presented by Bike Works, 212-388-1077.


MONDAY, MAY 14

Brooklyn Borough President's Breakfast
(7:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m.; meet on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge.)
NYC Bike Week free breakfast opener. Free Krispy Kreme doughnuts and complimentary bike bells from Brooklyn BP Howard Golden. Meet at 7:30 a.m. at Grand Army Plaza to ride to the breakfast.


TUESDAY, MAY 15

Staten Island Borough President's Breakfast
(7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; Staten Island Ferry Terminal entrance.)
Grab a pre-ferry bagel with SI Borough President Guy Molinari.

Guaranteed Bike Lane
(8 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Lafayette Street bike lane from Spring to Houston)
Bike lanes often become car-parking lanes. For three hours, cyclists and the NYPD bicycle patrol will guarantee that no motor vehicles block one of the city's most used bike lanes, on Lafayette Street from Spring to Houston. Free breakfast at Bicycle Habitat, 244 Lafayette Street.


WEDNESDAY, MAY 16

Queens Borough President's Breakfast
(7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; meet at Queens side of the Queensborough Bridge bike path.)
Ride to Claire Schulman's breakfast.

Manhattan Greenway Ride
(6:45 p.m.; meet at the Plaza Hotel, 59th Street and Fifth Avenue.)
A leisurely 20-mile ride on Manhattan's traffic-free pathways. Helmet required. Presented by the Five Borough Bike Club, www.5bbc.org or 212-932-2300, ext. 115.

Bicycle Film Festival
(May 16th through May 20; Anthology Film Archives, Second Avenue and 2nd Street)

THURSDAY, MAY 17

Bronx Borough President's Breakfast
(7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; meet at Kingsbridge Road/Grand Concourse.)
Have breakfast and a quick spin with borough president, mayoral candidate, and cyclist Fernando Ferrer. Meet at 7:30 a.m. to ride to the Bronx County Courthouse, 161st Street and Grand Concourse.

Women's Ride
(6:30 p.m.; meet at Bluestockings Bookstore, 172 Allen Street.)
A women's-only tour of landmarks in women's history in downtown NYC. Ride ends at the Anthology Film Archives for a screening of Two Seconds, a film about a woman bike messenger in Montreal.

Bike Ride to Coney Island
(7 p.m. to 10 p.m.; meet at Bicycle Habitat, 244 Lafayette Street.)
Thirty miles round-trip. Mellow pace. Bike must have air in the tires. Bring a tube and patch kit and $1.50 for the subway just in case. Presented by Hal Ruzal, 212-431-3315.

Manhattan Borough President's Breakfast
(7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; One Centre Street courtyard, Municipal Building)
Manhattan Borough President Virginia Fields hosts this last-day-of-Bike-Week bagel blast.


SATURDAY, MAY 19

Fix Your Own Bike
(10 a.m. to noon; Robert F. Wagner Park, Battery Park City)
Learn how to repair and perform basic maintenance on your bicycle. Presented by Battery Park and City Parks Conservancy, 212-267-9700.

People's Environmental Tour of the South Bronx
(3 p.m.; meet at Casa del Sol, 136th Street and Cypress Avenue.)
Witness environmental problems and environmentally sound sites in the South Bronx. The focus is on the waterfront and power plants. Presented by Cherry Tree Association, Inc. 718-292-6443.
