What would you do first if you were Mike Bloomberg? I'd focus on keeping everyone happy and on making sure the city continued to be clean and functional. I stood on 57th Street at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve and I really felt like we were moving into the future. This despite the fact that I stayed inside for the first several days after September 11, afraid to go outside because I'm half-Saudi.

What's the biggest hurdle now facing New York City? They say there's a recession and that tourism is down.

Who do you wish were the mayor?Ann Richards, the former governor of Texas. She's a lovely broad.

What would you do first if you were Mike Bloomberg?I'd focus on education. It scares me when I hear Bloomberg talking about layoffs.

What's the biggest hurdle now facing New York City? Tourism. How do we bring people back after September 11 and with the war going on? There are a lot of people going down to see ground zero, but you can't really say to them, "While you're in Lower Manhattan, why don't you stay long enough to buy a pair of jeans?" Being there is a solemn event and not one that's about making money.

Who do you wish were the mayor?Andrew Cuomo or Fernando Ferrer.

What would you do first if you were Mike Bloomberg? I'd concentrate on saying all the right things to make people feel confident. He's got a hard act to follow.

What's the biggest hurdle now facing New York City?More than anything, it's the city's morale. You want to make people feel like spending money, to make them feel like it's worth going out to buy a lipstick or something new as a little distraction. I work for a magazine devoted to shopping, and our favorite Giuliani quote was "Go out and spend money."

Who do you wish were the mayor?Michael J. Fox.

What would you do first if you were Mike Bloomberg?I'd get everyone a job. Legal, illegal, it wouldn't make a difference.

What's the biggest hurdle now facing New York City? A real-deal recession and unemployment. I've got a friend who just graduated from Columbia's journalism school and he can't even get a job. There should be job fairs once a month. Pizza Hut, the army, the navy, Kentucky Fried Chicken—they could all be represented there.

Who do you wish were the mayor?Frank Zappa.

What would you do first if you were Mike Bloomberg?I'd continue the work of Rudy Giuliani, which means being a cheerleader for the city. I just moved here from Mexico. I was scheduled to fly on September 13, but obviously that flight was canceled.

What's the biggest hurdle now facing New York City? The perception that the city isn't calm and safe. Now I live in New York. It's been shocking to me, what an incredible city this is. I felt I just had to be here.

Who do you wish were the mayor?Antonio Gaudí.

What would you do first if you were Mike Bloomberg? Besides addressing the future of the WTC site, I think the most fundamentally important issues are social services and education.

What's the biggest hurdle now facing New York City? The economy, though I'm one of the legions of people calling for a recession just so that I could afford to live here.

Who do you wish were the mayor?Brian Lehrer from WNYC. He interviewed Gene Simmons with the same grace and equanimity as he did Rudy Giuliani.

What would you do first if you were Mike Bloomberg? He hasn't really made an impression on me yet, I guess because Giuliani has been so wildly popular. What I know about Bloomberg is vague. I'd say that boosting the city's morale is critical now.

What's the biggest hurdle now facing New York City? Before the attack on the Trade Center, I would have said education, but now New York is a city in economic crisis.

Who do you wish were the mayor?Susan Sarandon. She's old and she's sexy.
