ON THE RECORD
There were some factual errors and erroneous implications in my January 15 review of Billy Joel's CD Fantasies & Delusions for which I offered timely revisions, but somehow the changes didn't end up in the Voice.
To address the most troubling points: The subsidy for symphonic composers at ASCAP and BMI was reduced in a couple of complex ways in 1994, but it was not entirely eliminated (in America anywayit waseliminated in some European rights organizations). And while pressure from certain pop music figures precipitated the changes, Billy Joel and Paul McCartney were not among them, as my review may seem to have implied. The Voice has included the version as it was supposed to appear in the Internet archives at www.villagevoice.com. I deeply regret that these corrections didn't make it into print.
