In light of 9/11, will you be feeling more patriotic this July 4th? It's a holiday I normally respect and I think this year I'll probably make more of the fact that it celebrates the this is a wonderful country to live in. I'll probably end up in Battery Park watching the fireworks.
What does the July 4th holiday celebrate? We will be celebrating the life and freedom that America represents. We have to go back to what makes it so greatdiversity, tolerance, and freedom from fear and ignorance. I can't say that the holiday represents freedom from England because my Londoner boyfriend would not enjoy that kind of comment.
Are you afraid it's a terrorist target date? No. I was a bit frightened over New Year's and I curbed my plans because of it. I'm not going to do that again.
Occupation Construction worker
In light of 9/11, will you be feeling more patriotic this July 4th? I think a lot of people will be feeling more patriotic. I'm from Ireland, where I suppose March 17 would be considered some kind of independence day. Although of course we're still not independent or united.
What does the July 4th holiday celebrate? Your country's independence from the British.
Are you afraid it's a terrorist target date? No. I think it's propaganda on the part of the U.S. government. They want people to quiet down. It's supposed to be a free country, but the media has direct feed from the White House.
In light of 9/11, will you be feeling more patriotic this July 4th? Yes. Ever since the attacks, people have been scared that it might happen again. I think even if they feel more patriotic this year, they may stay home and and close to their families. I was hoping to spend it with my boyfriend, but he's having his own spiritual party so I guess I'll stay home with my own family.
What does the July 4th holiday celebrate? To me it's a celebration of the fact that we won the war against Britain.
Are you afraid it's a terrorist target date? Personally, I think it could happen, but there is a God who won't let it if more people pray and seek spiritual guidance. I don't think that God let September 11 happen, God wasn't asleep, as some people said. All these things are in the Bible, in the book of Revelations. The killings, the wars, the earthquakes. All this has to happen.
Occupation Art Dealer
In light of 9/11, will you be feeling more patriotic this July 4th? It's always been an important holiday to me, but I think it's going to be a little different this year. We've never seen anything like the events of September 11. I'm glad the country is doing whatever it can to combat terrorism. I don't mind George W. Bush blowing up Afghanistan. I'm sure we're going to go into more countries in the future.
What does the July 4th holiday celebrate? Do I know what it celebrates? Of course. Independence Day. Independence from . . . HELLO?
Are you afraid it's a terrorist target date? Hell, no. Nobody wants to live under a threat, but I'm not going to change the way I live because there have been threats.
Occupation Soup kitchen director
In light of 9/11, will you be feeling more patriotic this July 4th? Normally, it's not a holiday of great patriotic meaning for me. I felt the most patriotic around the showing of the U.S. during the World Cup. On July 4th I normally get together with friends and family.
What does the July 4th holiday celebrate? It's the day that commemorates our independence from Britain. I've always thought holidays were the invention of advertisers.
Are you afraid it's a terrorist target date? Not really. Once in awhile I give it some thought but I'm really just trying to live my life. I was in Kentucky during the first reports of the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge being targets, and from that distance I remember thinking to myself, "I'm crazy to live in New York City." I do stay away from the subways, but for other reasons.
Occupation Photo assistant
In light of 9/11, will you be feeling more patriotic this July 4th? Yes, definitely. I don't think I was any less patriotic to begin with, so I couldn't be more. I'm not really one to rally around a cause, but I try to live by the tenets that the country was founded on. I was born and raised in New York and when you're forced to live with nine million people, it teaches you that it's not about a government or a religion, it's about morality and tolerance.
What does the July 4th holiday celebrate? Independence Day, 1776. Independence from the British.
Are you afraid it's a terrorist target date? I do have a little more anxiety. I don't want to be insensitive to the issues at hand. Do I think we're vulnerable to attack? Yes, but I won't be changing my plans on July 4th.
