Have you seen the WTC site plans? Yes, and they all suck. They're completely generic. The designers are all holding on to the twin towers theme. The terrorists didn't hit the towers because they were tall, they hit them because of the financial power they represented. They would have hit the buildings if they'd been five stories high.

Who should have the biggest say in what gets built? The people of New York. All our psyches were affected by the attacks.

What would you build there? Something that represents New York and that sticks out in the city skyline in the same way that the towers did, but is a completely new work. The towers were bland, a combination of computers, carpet, and steel, but you couldn't help but notice them.

Have you seen the WTC site plans? No, I haven't.

Who should have the biggest say in what gets built? I can't say, but I don't think it has to be a giant monument that they all break a bottle of champagne on.

What would you build there? I know that I wouldn't leave it as empty space, and I wouldn't rebuild the towers of the same height as the original. There's really no need. I think the Washington Monument and the Vietnam Memorial were good memorials. I lived in Berlin, and around that city there were small memorials you just stumbled upon.

Have you seen the WTC site plans? No.

Who should have the biggest say in what gets built? The citizens of New York, because we were all affected.

What would you build there? I would rebuild the twin towers exactly as they were. I know they can't be protected 100 percent of the time, but now we know we're a target and we can be ready. In themselves, they would be the memorial. The rebuilding shows our strength and our power. They're missing from the city now. They were so much a part of it.

Who should have the biggest say in what gets built? The Port Authority should have a substantial say. The families should play a part, but they shouldn't dictate how big the memorial is.

What would you build there? They will have to include businesses or the city will have a heart attack. I'm glad they're thinking about reincorporating Greenwich Street. My only thought is that whatever's built shouldn't be as high as the twin towers were. I worked in them until April of 2001, on the 95th and 98th floors. I remember that when it was overcast, the clouds completely surrounded the building and you couldn't see anything. I completely freaked out on September 11. I've never been to see the site. I had friends who died there.

Have you seen the WTC site plans? No.

Who should have the biggest say in what gets built? Clearly the commercial elements are taking precedence, because all plans without them have been vetoed.

What would you build there? Some kind of memorial that reinforces the idea that people shouldn't forget what happened, and that we should be taking action on behalf of world peace. That tends to be a lofty notion, but I've been to Hiroshima and seen that city's message. They honor the dead, while reminding the living to never forget.

Have you seen the WTC site plans? No.

Who should have the biggest say in what gets built? Families and regular civilians should be heard first.

What would you build there? I'm against rebuilding the twin towers to their original height. I think I'd want to see some kind of statue, then some kind of commercial space to get businesses that moved after September 11 to return to the area.

Have you seen the WTC site plans? Yes, briefly.

Who should have the biggest say in what gets built? I think it's everyone's business what gets built.

What would you build there? I'm very unsure about this. I do know that they can't just have a plain memorial park. I think they should rebuild, but they can't re-create the towers at their original height. Right now we don't recognize the city skyline. We need something there.
