Weapons? Did I Say That?

Rumsfeld's Short Memory and Long War

James Ridgeway

Tuesday, February 10th 2004

Even though the underlying basis for Britain's going to war against Iraq was intelligence that said Saddam could launch weapons of mass destruction within 45 minutes, thereby at the very least putting British bases at risk, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld told reporters last week, "I don't remember the statement being made, to be perfectly honest."

Here's a refresher, Rummy: Last March 24, you said with certainty, "We have seen intelligence over many months that they have chemical and biological weapons, and that they have dispersed them and that they're weaponized and that, in one case at least, the command and control arrangements have been established."
