Sometimes New York City doesn't totally suck. Like when we get DJ residencies that people in other cities only dream about. Like, say, this new Theo Parrish monthly jam—which is starting at (where else?) APT this week. The Detroiter's sound is a little different than his techno brethren's, but it's just as delish. The artist marries Detroit techno's rougher edges to Chicago house's silky, soulful side to get the best of both worlds. Your only problem on Thursday night is going to be finding a spot to wiggle your butt. Thursday @ 10, APT, 419 W 13th, 212.414.4245

Even though it seems completely at odds with my cynical self, I always enjoy Ben Watt's uplifting, upbeat DJ sets. They make me feel like I'm on a beach somewhere, dancing my ass off, instead of in some dank, dark, nasty club. The DJ and Everything but the Girl member is making the rounds on his Buzzin' Fly Tour in support of his newest mix disc of the same name. Sunday @ 9, Canal Room, 285 W Bway, 212.941.8100

For something completely left-field, there's the three-day REPELLENT FEST, during which you can feast your ears at the newest and grungiest space in the city (Volume, duh!). The Repellent zine peeps claim that the venue will be transformed into a "Heraldic Pomp'Azz Performance Lodge," whatever that means. Live music by Electronicat, Donna Summer (no, not that one), and Philipp Quehenberger of Cheap Records in the big room.
