Ghostly International is possibly the best dance music label going in the U.S., with a wide range of artists filling the electronic-sound spectrum (though my personal fave is Mr. Dear). Lucky us, they leave their Midwest digs every so often to visit APT. This Session features Poker Flat/Trapez artist Jeff Samuel, Gigolo artist Hieroglyphic Being, plus Derek Plaslaiko. Karaoke is all good and well, but most people truly excel at air guitar. Don't lie, you know you did it when you were a wee one. (You probably still do it in the mirror, and sober too). You also know you did it to Van Halen songs, and worse, Poison songs. Sometimes if you were really slumming it, you strummed your fake guitar to Bon Jovi. Cielo, fresh off its win as the best club in the country at the DanceStar USA awards, is starting to really come into its own. The club's booking has expanded, bringing a West Coast vibe to the cozy mini-club on occasion. This week, L.A.'s big man on campus, Doc Martin, spins his psychedelic-inspired house, sharing the decks with Cielo's own Nicolas Matar, who is best known for his dreamy Ibiza sets.
