On Rudy's GOP Menu: Flies, Expired Milk, and Inadequate Personal Cleanliness

A closer look at Giuliani's dining suggestions

Before the Republicans take a bite out of the Big Apple, they might want to find out if anyone took the time to wash it.

2004nycgop.org, the official website of the 2004 Republican National Convention Committee on Arrangements, is presenting a series called "Top 10 New York Guides" for delegates, volunteers, media, and tourists coming to the city at the end of August for the big RNC hoedown.

Among the guides is a list of restaurants provided by Rudy Giuliani. The former mayor and all-around New York mascot offers his own capsule reviews that would make even the most enthusiastic Zagat Survey writer blush, like this one for Palm West: "Great steaks, great people, and a terrific atmosphere makes [sic] this a great dining experience."

Yes, but what about the flies?

The following violations, for Palm West and the other Rudy picks, were cited by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

All inspection information contained in this article is taken from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene website. The violations cited are the result of unannounced inspections by DOHMH inspectors whose allegations can then be adjudicated by the owners at administrative tribunals with the possibility of dismissal. To the extent that any of the violations is in the process of adjudication, they may be out of date.

Unless otherwise noted, despite the cited violations, all of the restaurants listed passed inspection.
