Proving that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, Rephlex artist Cylob's homepage greets viewers thus: "Cylob.com is not guaranteed to be suitable for children." Follow the trail to tracks he makes for Rephlex (the label that is also home to prankster Richard D. James's shenanigans) and Breakin', and you find some quirky, offbeat electronic tunes that are equally charming and jarring—with pretty melodies meeting grimy breaks, and coy electro shot up with nasty black humor. Cylob isn't here to make music for the masses; he wants to challenge the complacent clubbers. Hear him at your own risk, two different times this week. He performs a live p.a. with Machine Drum and Bundok supporting (Thursday @ 9, Club Europa, 98-104 Meserole Ave, Bklyn, 718.383.5723), and also DJs with Derek Plaslaiko (of Ghostly International), Atomly, and Cowboy Mark at Security: The Bleep and Rave Edition. Friday @ 10, Happy Ending, 302 Broome, 212.334.9676

The East Village celebrates itself with the Second Annual Howl Festival. For events not so staunchly entrenched in the past, look to Murray Hill's selection of parties at Fez, which feature fresh artists like Joan as Policewoman (a soulful singer-songwriter type—she's quite good), Bitch (from Bitch and Animal), Tracey and the Plastics, the Fisherman's Savage Lounge, and several others. Also, studly Murray is debuting his new show, To All the Girls I've Loved Before. Go to mrmurrayhill.com for more info. From Wednesday to Monday @ Fez, 380 Lafayette, 212.533.7000

Benny Soto, promoter extraordinaire behind the 718 Sessions, has a new gig. It's called Adult Section and features Citizen Kane as the resident DJ, with special guest DJ Harvey, a Londoner who combines equal parts '70s wah-wah grooves with electronic psychedelia in his sets. Tuesday @ 9, Table 50, 643 Bway, 212.253.2560, table50.com
