Put on your boogie shoes and hustle over to DISCO: A DECADE OF SATURDAY NIGHTS, through May 14 at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (40 Lincoln Center Plaza, 212-870-1630, nypl.org). Imported from Seattle's Experience Music Project, this interactive multimedia extravaganza was curated by Eric Weisbard, Ann Powers, and Ben London. It includes disco-centric art, fashion, and costumes (can you say, "White three-piece polyester suit"?); listening stations and video monitors; 12-INCH VINYL SINGLES; ephemera including matchbooks and membership cards from famous clubs the world over; and—for those too young or uncool to have seen the original—a replica of the neon, coke-snorting crescent moon that once graced Studio 54. Also not to be missed is Sears's DISCO POOHkiddie record player—a perfect example of the over-hyping that helped kill this glamorous craze just in time for the flowering of new wave.
