Take a trip to Spain by just hopping on the F train. The newest addition to Clinton Street's restaurant row, Tapeo 29 is a tapas bar with delicious, reasonably priced food; a Spain-heavy wine list; and a knowledgeable and friendly staff, who will make suggestions about pairings. Located behind a medieval-looking heavy wooden door on the corner of Stanton, this brick-walled bar is as tiny as the traditional small plates it serves. (Try the quesos de España, $15, to sample authentic Spanish cheeses.) Strangely, though, the specialty cocktails ($10) aren't traditional or Spanish at all. Ranging from the Brazilian (a raspberry caipirinha) to the Mexican (a blueberry margarita), the Latin-style drinks are sophisticated, made with real fruit, and nothing like those alcoholic Slurpees you get out of a machine. Since Tapeo 29—with its dark wood and dim lighting—will surely be cozy this winter, try and come while the weather is still nice enough to sit near the giant, open windows with a fruity drink in your hand. You may be looking out onto the Lower East Side, but after a few glasses of the excellent sangria ($7), it's easy to pretend it's the Puerta del Sol.
