Free Pop Tarts and Slim Jims? Sounds like the stuff of a college freshman's diet, and whether or not that's a good thing, you can get them for free at Maracuja' in Williamsburg after 1 a.m. Though complimentary toaster pastries (we could definitely do without the beef jerky) are an unexpected star in a growing galaxy of bars with free junk food, they certainly don't outshine the rest of the five-month-old bar's offerings. Owner Charlie Kaim's Maracujasas ($6), a mean mix of passion fruit nectar and pure sugarcane rum, made us curse the unseasonably cold weather that prevented enjoying one under the light-strung trees of the lovely back garden. Brooklyn Brewery dominates the tap, but those needing a beer branch-out could always get a bottle of Brazilian Brahma ($5). Looking to make rent this month? Pints of Rolling Rock are $2. Kaim's wife, Connie, not only refinished the antique couches and chairs scattered around the room and painstakingly hand painted the passion flowers on the ceiling in dusty hues of purple and green, she also mans the kitchen, serving up empanadas (six for $5) and tostones with Aji hot sauce ($3.95) as well as bar grub staples like buffalo wings (six for $5). After tasting her Colombian-style rice and beans ($3.95) with dashes of diced plantains, cumin, and potatoes, it's easy to see why Kaim said he hasn't given away many Pop Tarts.
