July 6 Willie Colón July 13 Amadou & Mariam:Whether the blues originated in Mali or bounced back there in a felicitous echo makes no difference as soon as this fabulous blind couple hits the stage (or the MP3 file "Dimanche a Bamako" was one of last year's highlights). Amadou Bagayoko plays nasty vamping blues beside wife Mariam Doumbia, a pepper-voiced chanteuse. The results are glorious. GEHR

August 3 Tortured Soul
August 4 James Blood Ulmer: Guitarist James Blood Ulmer spent his formative years playing with Ornette Coleman and deciphering his mysterious "harmolodic" music theory system, learning a structure for Coleman's seemingly unstructured free jazz. Recently he's been working out his downtown jazz in a Delta blues format, and his outside lyricism conjures up the eerie mysticism of Skip James and Son House. BEHRMAN

June 30 TV on the Radio + Matt Pond PA: If their rousing, almost-religious spring shows are any indication, TVOTR's forthcoming major label debut will bring the stomping rhythms, gospel-inflected harmonies, and arty, soulful guitarswhich, live, fuzz and crackle under Tunde Adebimpe's smooth doo-wop croonto a much wider audience. Tonight they're joined by fellow Brooklyners Matt Pond PA and their OC-approved, midtempo chamber pop. Also: Voxtrot. RABER

August 5 African Festival: Kekele + Lagbaja + African Underground All-stars + Martino Atangana & the African Blue Note: Masked Lagos singer-saxophonist and serious Fela fan Lagbaja will rev things higher in the wake of locally-based Cameroonian guitarist Martino Atangana and the pan-African hip-hop of the African Underground All-Stars. But headlining Kinshasa-to-Paris supergroup Kekele, constructed around the revered Papa Noel and featuring crack guitarists Syran M'Benza and Rigo Star, will go for the beauty in the great Congolese rumba traditioneven if they have to mine the Cuban songbook to get there. Feist features Calgary-born, Toronto-based, Broken Social Scenelinked chanteuseno, singer-songwriterLeslie Feist, and how about that? Feist appears on the most recent album by the Nova Scotiaborn, Toronto-based Richard Terfry, a/k/a Buck 65, which features a band no one would call hip-hop. CHRISTGAU
June 28 Bonnie Raitt + Keb' Mo': Ms. Raitt's take on electric blues can still be incendiary, especially if you keep your ear on the guitar. She's also venturing into new, jazzier territory these days; along with her more soulful pop, these should make for an especially good pairing with Keb' Mo's flowing, mellifluous update of acoustic blues. MAZOR

July 2 Seu Jorge + Jose Gonzales + Alex Cuba Band: Best known for his lilting Portuguese Bowie covers in The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, Jorge should be better known for his own earthy inner-city sambas. Born and raised in Cuba, Alex Cuba Band multi-instrumentlistleader Alex Puente sounds it. GEHR

July 23Konono No. 1: Dancey and trancey, this West African Congo troop takes likembé pianos (thumb pianos in the same family as mbiras) but amplifies them via a hodgepodge of magnets, microphones, and old car parts; dancers, singers, and traditional percussion provide ornamentation to the rustic and tribal grooves. Last years lauded shows at Joe's Pub were the first stateside appearances since their inception around 1980well recommended! Fans of Thomas Mapfumo take note. Also: Daara J. BOSLER
July 26 Fiona Apple + Damien Rice + David Garza: Last December at the Nokia, Apple proved that the extraordinary circumstances of Extraordinary Machine's creation hadn't dulled her ability to get onstage and flip wigs. A half-year later, she'll likely be sharper still. Irish balladeer Rice is pretty snoozy on record, but live he channels the intensity of the old souls he worships. Austin-based Garza makes perfect power pop of which too few people are aware. WOOD
July 29 Goapele + Alice Smith
July 30 Lady Sovereign + Pete Rock + Jean Grae + DJ Rekha
August 3 The New Pornographers + Calexico + The Frames: Canadian power pop supergroup New Pornographers could give you a toothache with their cotton candy vocals, cheerful rhythms, and ripe, catchy hooks, but leader Carl Newman knows just how to balance the sweet with the minor-key sour, making for the perfect pop confection. Calexico's dusty, Southwestern ranch rock will be the perfect, tart margarita chaser. RABER

September 5 & 6 Ben Harper + Damian Jr. "Gong" Marley: Folk-soul dynamo Harper's always buttered his bread on the road; in recent years he's cultivated a loyal constituency on the jam-band scene, where his ability to sing gives him the aura of a prophet. Harper's new Both Sides of the Gunone disc of rockers, one disc of balladsshould provide plenty of live-show fodder. Opener (and son of Bob) Marley made one of 2005's best albums in Welcome to Jamrock, a bracing contemporization of his dad's conscious throb. WOOD
September 28Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: These local quirk-pop merchants have averted (or at least delayed) the hipster backlash that awaits them by lying relatively low for the last couple of months. Still, this end-of-summer blowout suggests they've got bigger things on their minds than the begrudging approval of the Pitchfork mafia. Expect new tunes and some special guests yet to be announced. June 19 'Sweet Lorraine: A Jazz Celebration for the Village Vanguard': The Bad Plus + Roy Hargrove Quintet + Paul Motion Trio 2000 + One+ Dr. Michael White's Original Liberty Jazz Band (Carnegie Hall): The triangle-shaped room still defines the city's jazz experience, and its longstanding boss is as charismatic and engaging as the artists she books. The breadth of that booking is obvious at this homage concert; any show that offers the wiseacre wisdom of the Bad Plus and the trad polyphony of Dr. Michael White's Original Liberty Jazz Band is about scope. July 28August 26 : A summertime New York City favorite for 40 years the Mostly Mozart Festival celebrates the music of Beethoven, Schubert, Haydn, and of courseMozart. Well known for its informal, friendly atmosphere, the festival showcases vocal, instrumental and dance works, and offers a stage for both the world-renowned performer and promising young artist. A few of this year's highlights include a world premiere of Mark Morris's Mozart Dances(August 18 & 19) and a U.S. premiere of Peter Sellar's staging of Mozart's unfinished opera Zaide (August 9, 11, & 12). July 29 The "Ozzy" brand name and Ozzy-as-metal-icon status took yet another hit after Sharon Osbourne's Iron Maidenegging debacle on last summer's Ozzfest. This year's super-boring lineup is a further indictment.
