Still in Love With Him

Singing the praises of Al Green

If James Brown is the Godfather of Soul, and Aretha Franklin is the Queen, then Al Green is without a doubt the most Reverend. He has taken us to the river, asked us to stay together, and always delivered love and happiness. He’s 60 now and still has more beats than most of us. This gospel and r&b singer knows how to put on a show; last year, at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill he commanded a hefty $175 a ticket and sold out. This time around, he performs outdoors at Asser Levy Seaside Park in Brooklyn, and for free (unless you count the $10 you’ll spend on renting a chair if your tushy’s too delicate for bleacher-style seating). This first performance in the Seaside Summer Concert Series promises to be a great kickoff to many a steamy musical evening. So let’s recap—Al Green, outdoors, free. Be there, especially if you’re tired of being alone.

At 7:30, Asser Levy Seaside Park, Seabreeze Avenue at Ocean Parkway, Brooklyn, 718-469-1912, brooklynconcerts.com
