Sensationally transmitted dogma

Re Tristan Taormino's "The Slut Shot" [Hot Spot, August 23: What an irresponsible headline. I understand the need to sen- sationalize stories in order to grab readers' attention, but this title is really wrong. It implies that all girls are sluts and therefore need the HPV vaccine. Duh! Anyone can catch a sexually transmitted disease from just one encounter with an infected person. Please be responsible and stop spreading misinformation and feeding sexual stereotypes.

Role model

I want to clear up some inaccurate impressions left by Cynthia Carr's piece on the Atlantic Yards Development ["Life in the Footprint," August 2/b>. All renters in the footprint of AY have been offered comparable apartments in the new development at comparable rents, even current tenants of rent-controlled apartments. Forest City Ratner is willing to help find and finance the relocation of homeowners and renters alike. Working families living in AY's below-market-rate units won't be segregated into second-class buildings. Low- and middle-income renters will be in the same buildings, on the same floors as market-rate renters. The AY project is the first development in New York City to sign a legally binding Community Benefits Agreement stipulating that 50 percent of the rental units will be affordable, and insuring the creation of 15,000 construction jobs and thousands of permanent Brooklyn-based jobs. The Atlantic Yards project won't solve the housing crisis, but it will begin to create a new model that ensures affordable housing. Jim Stuckey

Manhattan Snakes in print Ed Halter's "Fakes on a Plane" [August 9 was written as if what happened on 9-11 did not matter. By ridiculing the shoestring research made by concerned citizens around the world, Halter simply displayed his callousness for the victims of these atrocities and his disinterest in the truth. The Voice should jump off the sinking boat of the official 9-11 conspiracy theory if it does not wish to be seen as a bastion of U.S. Stalinism. Instead of ridiculing good Americans who are looking for the truth, the paper should seriously examine the case being presented. Elias Davidsson
