Pop Among the Ruins

imageSYNOPSIS: Many of your Uncle LD's bestest pals ("friends" is such a funny word) are December babies—Uncle Jon, Uncle Dudley, Uncle Gail, Uncle Geoff, Uncle Lola... and so many more. Some of these dear people have happy, productive lives with jobs they don't hate, lovers they plan to keep, pets ... hell, the works! Lucky devils. Bless them, bless them—every one.

But some don't. Despite the supposed creativity of those born under the sign of the Archer (hooves!), many of us can't even figure out how to get out of bed some mornings. And that's not because there's someone/something there to keep us warm (Music for Torching by AM Homes doesn't really count, although it's a fun read). For these folks there is this special inspirational editin of High Bias, "Pop Among the Ruins." If you scent out a narrative thread weaving drunkenly through the following songs, you're quite clever clogs, aren't you? Of course it isn't about anyone we know. So don't ask again.

Famous people with whom your Uncle LD is honored to share his own impending 29th birthday: Dick Van Dyke, Gustave Flaubert, Mary Todd Lincoln, Sgt Alvin C York, Steve Buscemi, one of the Darens from Bewitched (but which?) and Mr Ted "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" Nugent himself. Who could ask for anything more?

Well, I could: Buy my book!

NEXT WEEK: Procrastination as an artform...
