DarkBlueAlmostBlack tells the ludicrously compact, aggressively "heartfelt," colorfully contrived story of Jorge (Quim Gutiérrez), a handsome, gap-toothed janitor who dutifully attends to his crusty, debilitated father (Héctor Colomé) while: a) dreaming of a white-collar job; b) attempting to impregnate a wrongfully incarcerated hottie (Marta Etura) at the request of his sterile, imprisoned brother (Antonio de la Torre); c) awkwardly reconciling with his ex-girlfriend (Eva Pallarés), just returned from studies in Germany; d) hanging out with his best friend Israel (Raúl Arévalo) on a rooftop where they spy on the clients of a massage-with-release operation, one of whom ends up being Israel's estranged father; or e) warmly sympathizing with Israel as he works out his familial issues and sexual identity by visiting, with boner, the very same masseuse. Writer-director Daniel Sánchez Arévalo derives his title from the color of the suit Jorge covets—and his ideas about the life of the Madrid working class from: a) Almodóvar; b) Sundance; c) Uranus.
