New Year's Eve 2008 Pursuits

Affairs Afloat

Affairs Afloat's paddleboat and two DJs bring Top 40, retro, R&B, and hip-hop to the Statue of Liberty fireworks display. The boat offers a three-hour open bar and hors d'oeuvres; a dockside party follows at 1 a.m.

Bargemusic

It's all Bach all night at Bargemusic, New York's "floating concert hall." Cellos, flutes, and violins fill the night air on New Year's Eve, while audience members are treated to champagne and cookies.

At 7 p.m., $150; Fulton Ferry Landing, Brooklyn, 718-624-4061

Dave and Busters

Cheeseburgers, beer, and mindless video games more your style? Then ring in the new year at Dave and Busters, which has over 31,500 square feet of entertainment options along its "million dollar midway," loaded with SkeeBall, PacMan, and Super Trivia. D&B also offers one of the choices for those under 21 unlucky enough to score a fake ID: booze-free tickets for the kids are $100; general admission otherwise costs $125.

7 p.m., $100-$215; 234 West 42nd Street, 646-495-2015

Emerald Nuts

The New York Road Runners Club's annual midnight run begins at Tavern on the Green with a DJ and dancing, a parade, fireworks, and a costume contest—then participants are off to Central Park for the 5K fun run. Champagne is offered at the halfway point, and Emerald Nuts, the race sponsor, offers prizes for best costume and best resolution. FYI: Entry fees are cash-only.

10 p.m., $30–$50; Tavern on the Green, Central Park West and 67th Street, 212-860-4455

Luxury Yacht

City Lights Cruises' luxury yacht Romantica glams up the traditional dancing-and-fireworks New Year's Eve cruise. It's a black-tie-optional event and includes a full fancy-pants dinner; visit eastcoastyachtcruises.com for more information.

Paddlewheel Queen

The 2007 Countdown Cruise sets sail from the Skyport Marina on the East Side of Manhattan. Dance all night, and return to land at 2 a.m. after watching the fireworks from the harbor. They're giving away disposable cameras and raffling off a three-hour limo tour of New York, in addition to the standard open bar, buffet dinner, champagne toast, and DJ.

Time's Up

If your resolutions include a greener 2008, start your year off right with the environmentally friendly Time's Up bike ride. It's the organization's 10th annual New Year's Eve party ride, in which the group meets up at Washington Square Park under the arch and heads up to Belvedere Castle in the middle of Central Park for a free and festive dance party.

Visit times-up.org for more information. 10:30 p.m.; Washington Square Park
