TRANS MUSIC

Kick it in Bond’s surreal living room

“My only regret is that I didn’t call the show ‘White Pussy’ . . . ’cause, you know, I am white pussy,” says Justin Bond about his latest work, Lustre, a Midwinter Trans-Fest. For three weeks, the Tony-nominated performer who defies age and reason as the feminine half of cabaret duo Kiki & Herb presents a transgender cabaret, with songs “by or about trannies” like Benjamin Snow and Bambi Lake, and performed by special guests like Our Lady J, M. Lamar, and Taylor Mac. It’s a night of monologues and music, but there’s a loose plot in which Bond, playing himself, travels to New Jersey to bring red sequined tap shoes to “Frank Anne” (Glenn Marla). What ensues is, according to set and costume designer Machine Dazzle, “beautiful, trashy, and instant.” “It’ll be like everyone’s in my living room,” says Bond, “my surreal living room.”
Saturdays, 11 p.m.; Wednesdays-Sundays, 8:30 p.m. Starts: Feb. 23. Continues through March 9, 2008
