Stand-up gets an experimental update
“There’s a difference between what people think black comedy is and what it actually happens to be. It’s not 1992. More comedians are breaking out of the ‘urban comedy’ mold now than ever,” says Elon James White, founder of the Black Comedy Experiment Festival, a three-day showcase that’s a combination of stand-up and sketch. Taking part are pros who have appeared on SNL, Chappelle’s Show, Def Comedy Jam, and Comedy Central. Expect some riffs on Black Jesus and what it’s like to be black and gay. (Hilarious, apparently!)
