Dennis Cooper

The controversial and award-winning writer Dennis Cooper—whose transgressive lit on drugs, porn, pop culture, and gay boys is often compared to William Burroughs—has most recently been living in Paris, where he diligently blogs (denniscooper.net), collaborates on plays, writes fiction, and—happily for fans—has finally finished his first book of poetry in 12 years. Tonight, Cooper will sign copies and read from The Weaklings at this book-release party, with music by Luke Rathbone and an exhibit of Jarrod Anderson’s drawings from the book. The book (which is on sale at thefanzine.com) includes old unfinished poems he recently reworked as well as new works, including one that indie-rock fans are sure to appreciate, titled “Elliott Smith at 14.”
