TWICE AS NICE

For a double dose of entertaining pop-culture-inspired works, the Kitchen in Chelsea aims to impress at tonight’s art-opening party, featuring brand-new works by contemporary artists Mika Tajima and Glen Fogel. While taking advantage of the free drinks, wander through Tajima’s “phantom performance space” installation, titled The Double, which borrows from a range of retro influences, including Henry Miller’s controversial office furniture from the late ’60s and Mick Jagger’s role as a washed-up rock star in the 1970 cult film Performance. Fogel, on the other hand, draws from present-day sources for his new video installation, titled Quarry, which intercuts a short excerpt of a scene from Law & Order: Special Victims Unitwith his own shot-for-shot, altered re-enactments to explore shame, pleasure, sexuality, and violence.
