DJ Kstarr drops a mix tape intended for hip-hop sleepers

As DJ Kstarr compiled her new mix tape, Da Wake Up Call, blending jazz fusion and mainstream pop from artists past and present with the records hip-hop lovers go nuts for, the idea of a listening party took over. “I dreamed up a little hip-hop circus of a party,” she recalls. “I am talking about a random mix of people from the block to the misfits, to the cool kids all nodding and feeling the total essence of what this event is supposed to be.” The mix tape features Lupe Fiasco, Dead Prez, Blackilicious, the Roots, Tribe Called Quest, Little Brother, Talib Kwali, and up-and-coming artists like P.Casso from Brooklyn, Kronis the Ill from Philadelphia, and Fontaine from Queens, who will also be performing live.
