Left-wing thinkers come together for three days of talks

Worried about the war in Iraq? Political violence in Darfur? The decline of the dollar? All of the above? Left Forum 2008, the annual event that brings together a range of left-wing activists, thinkers, and organizers from around the world, hopes to provide you with some answers—or at least a shoulder to cry on. This year’s forum is on the theme “Cracks in the Edifice” and includes more than 100 panel discussions on everything from the Latin-American right to the homeless in New York City. Speakers include Amy Goodman (Democracy Now!), Naomi Klein (The Shock Doctrine), political-satire group Billionaires for Bush, and writer Tariq Ali (Bush in Babylon). All the let’s-change-the-world togetherness kicks off tonight with a cocktail party at 5 p.m.
