Female choreographers send out sparks

Even in the world of modern dance, where women have made substantial contributions (Martha Graham, Isadora Duncan, Doris Humphrey, etc.), male choreographers—now more than ever, it seems—are the ones who hit the international big time. But the OB.ject.ob.JECT series wants to change all that, offering female choreographers greater opportunities to show what they’ve got. Tonight, catch Vanessa Justice Dance’s latest work, Noise’sNoise, which brings in a sound installation to accentuate movement designed to express the process of self-examination; Shannon Gillen and Elisabeth Motley’s Doorknob Company dreams of going domestic in Julia Julia Julia Child; and the expressive dances of Nicole Wolcott in Dramarama! explore American mass media.
