BUST A MOVE

A party for the new LES bohemians

Formerly known as the Squatters May Day party back in the pre-gentrified Lower East Side of the ’80s, the Blackkat MayDay Celebrationin Tompkins Square Park is a dance-party free-for-all for the city’s new bohemians (we guess they’ll mostly be from Brooklyn or the NYU dorms), with a day of fun and activism featuring music, speakers, live silkscreening, and free grub (provided by the peaceniks at Food Not Bombs). With over a thousand people expected to attend, this year’s bash boasts old-skool hip-hop legend Grandmaster Caz (of Wild Style fame), hardcore rave DJ Lenny Dee, the Hungry March Band, sideshow performer Dennis the Menace, and, of course, the multitalented art/dance/DJ collective the Blackkat Crew
