Cinema 101

Film critics teach you how to be as snobby as they are

If the names Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Chantal Akerman, and Béla Tarr don’t ring a bell, then we’re sorry to say, dear cinephiles, that you’ve got a lot more movie-watching to do. Luckily, the film critics of the new anthology Exile Cinema—about the wild world of filmmaking outside the U.S.—will be on hand tonight at KGB to clue you in to all the names and movies you need to know, from little-known pioneers to the most promising talents in contemporary cinema. Writers Michael Atkinson, Ed Halter, B. Kite, and David Sterritt are just a few who’ll be there to celebrate the book’s release and improve your knowledge of exotic film trivia.
