Michael Stipe signs his new photo book
Over the last seven years, veteran rock photographer David Belisle (who’s photographed everyone from Mudhoney to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) has faithfully followed R.E.M.—from video shoots to concerts and even to the toilet—for his new book, R.E.M. Hello. The book includes snapshots of Michael Stipe and company hanging out with all their rock buddies, such as Patti Smith, Neil Young, and Eddie Vedder, with captions scrawled in the band members’ handwriting (for instance, a photo of Thom Yorke of Radiohead and an exhausted-looking Stipe reads: “I’d been up for basically three days shooting the ‘Animal’ video”). Tonight, Stipe—who also wrote the book’s introduction—joins Belisle at this signing.
