Since 1997, Rooftop Films has been jumping from one roof to another (because of eviction or simply expansion) while solidifying itself as a great launching pad for indie filmmakers and a cool way to see underground films in an unconventional setting. This years summer selection offers everything from a two-day film and music festival to shorts on animation, love, and Latin America to documentaries on Clayton Patterson (a photographer of the LES), Argentinean garment workers, and much more. Opening night gives us This Is What We Mean by Short Films, with subjects including a monkey, a middle-class father, a joke gone wrong, and bubble wrapall shown in one sitting, which is perfect for those of us with ADD. But before that, catch a set by Dirty On Purpose, and finish up the night with free drinks at Fontanas!
