THE GREAT NORTH AMERICAN TRICKSTERS

Alan and Richard Bishop send an old bandmate off in style

Take the name of this Alan and Richard Bishop tour—“The Brothers Unconnected”—seriously. The two erstwhile Sun City Girls lost their drummer and adopted brother, Charles Gocher Jr., to cancer early last year, putting an end to the bizarre trio’s quarter century in the varied and muddy trenches of experimental sound. Tonight, in his honor, the Bishops will screen Gocher’s The Handsome Stranger, a video involving both a dangling, antlered skull and a sex-ed-type tour of a woman’s anatomy, before dipping into SSC’s (and specifically Gocher’s) voluminous back catalog. Those concerned that this tour will have adverse effects on the brothers Bishop and their infamous sense of humor can relax: Recent shows have apparently featured the ceremonial—or, uh, real—blowing of Gocher’s ashes into the crowd.
