If you were wondering how Martin Løfsnes, the artistic director of the 360º Dance Company and a Norwegian dancer who studied in London, ended up collaborating on Atlanta-based choreographer Lauri Stallings’s work Maktub, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say it was destiny. That, after all, is the actual meaning of the Arabic word, which can also be translated as “So it is written.” Having its world premiere in Norway last fall, this energy-filled performance—described as “an exploration of speed and possibility; a study in the intricacy of community and a meeting of two very different worlds”—has its U.S. premiere here as part of the River to River Festival. The dancers include Løfsnes, former Martha Graham Dance Company principal Alessandra Prosperi, soloist Erica Dankmeyer, and Milan Misko, who will be gliding, flipping, and twirling at the unique dance environment of Pier 17.
