Musicals that will make you cringe
If you think about how many bad musicals actually make it to Broadway, imagine what a wasteland the genre is at its sappiest and most melodramatic. Fortunately for Off-Off-Broadway, the Bad Musicals Festival ’08is not here to celebrate the failures of musical theater: “They’re really good plays that are delightfully naughty,” explain the producers. Over the course of the next several weeks, new works will be presented in the following categories: “Is That a Gun in Your Pocket?”; “Foreign & Familiar Bodies” (OBGYNia, a Sci-Fi Musical Romp! sounds like a winner); “Politics & Poopsy”; “Criminally Insane Puppets”; and “It Ain’t Kansas Anymore!” (featuring The Great Plastic Surgeon of Oz). Obviously, musicals ain’t Les Mizanymore.
