On Flight of the Conchords, Arj Barker plays the boneheaded advice-giving friend Dave, who pretends his parents are his subletters. As a stand-up comedian, Barkers act isnt much different: Hes a lot like your high-school class clown who preferred pot and porn to books and studyingand, happily for us, hes never grown up. Always on the verge of going berserk, he rants about anything that makes him feel stupidfrom the condescending tone he perceives Google using when it corrects his spelling mistakes (Did you mean: vagina it asks him) to passengers who read books on airplanes (Just put it away and be bored with me! he shouts). Back in New York after a two-week stint headlining the Sydney Opera House in Australia, Barker (co-writer of the Off-Broadway hit The Marijuana-logues) performs four shows at Comix. And if you like to heckle, be warned: Hes not afraid to throw down.
