ANCIENT HISTORY

Does the Claywoman exist? Perhaps Amy Poehler knows.

Did you know there’s a mysterious 500,000,000-year-old being who can miraculously cure people—even entire planets—of their deepest pain? But who or what is this enigma? The Mystery of Claywoman, written by and starring the handsome model/actor/singer Michael Cavadias (Wonder Boys, Rock Star), attempts to get to the bottom of it, sort of. Directed by Click + Drag founding member Rob Roth (Screen Test), the movie, which premiered in June at Deitch Studios, is about the discovery of an unfinished documentary (found in the rubble of a condemned low-income housing unit in lower Manhattan—where else?) containing interviews with devotees and critics of the intergalactic healer. Given a cast that includes Alan Cumming, Deborah Harry, Amy Poehler, and Justin Bond, one can only assume that old-school neorealism wasn’t high on the filmmaker’s to-do list
