LA DOLCE VITAFellini, linguine, and musicaBy Araceli CruzWednesday, August 6th 2008 at 3:43amFederico Fellini didnt intend 8 1/2, his greatest film (and overall top film in generala directors poll taken by the British Film Institute ranked it the No. 3 movie of all time), to be so blatantly about himself. The 1963 film, which famously details Fellinis own artistic struggles, was originally intended to be about a novelist suffering from writers block. But when Fellini discovered that his star, Marcello Mastroianni (whom the Italian director often used as his surrogate), had just played a writer in Antonionis La Notte, the protagonist was transformed into a filmmaker. Tonight, celebrate Fellinis masterpiece about love and fantasy in style at Socrates Sculpture Park with an Italian-inspired program that includes Italian classic pop and folk by the five-piece band La Nozze di Carlo and Italian cuisine from Manettas.
