With about 75 artists included in the big summertime group show, Pretty Ugly, at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise and Maccarone, we imagine it won’t be hard to find a few works to love, even if you find them to be (as the title implies) beautiful in their unloveliness. Curated by Alison Gingeras, the chief curator of the François Pinault Collection in Venice, the show includes oddball works (some far stranger than others) by such starry talents as Louise Bourgeois, John Currin, Nan Goldin, Julian Schnabel, Paul McCarthy, Bruce LaBruce, Takashi Murakami, Elizabeth Peyton, and Andy Warhol.
