More About

McCarren Park Pool’s film series rocks out to Todd Haynes’s Velvet Goldmine, an investigative journey into the rise and fall of more or less fictional 1970s glitter rocker Brian Slade (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers), who no doubt copped his style points from Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. Slade hooks up with fellow glam rocker/boyfriend Curt Wild (Ewan McGregor), and the two proceed to revel in that debaucherous rock-’n’-roll lifestyle. Ironically, the hardcore music and plentiful sex and drugs that were supposed to bring him freedom end up enslaving him, leading Slade to fake his own murder in order to escape the limelight. Christian Bale plays the reporter in search of the man behind the music.
