If any kid told you, My top schools where I want to apply to are Oxford and the Sorbonne; my safetys Harvard, hed deserve to be strangled on the spot. But when 15-year-old Max Fischer says it to the older woman he wants to impress in Wes Andersons Rushmore, his cockiness only makes us love him more. Generally considered Andersons best, Rushmore (which closes out the Summer Film series at McCarren Park Pool) follows the precocious dreamer, a scholarship student at an elite prep school, on his quest to win the heart ofor at least a handjob fromthe pretty young teacher Miss Cross. Played by Jason Schwartzman, Max is the kind of ballsy kid you wish youd been in high school (purchasing dynamite for his play, ordering piranhas from South America, building an aquarium on school property without permission). With Bill Murray as the steel tycoon Herman Blume who battles Max for Miss Crosss heart, as well as Seymour Cassel, Luke Wilson, and Andersons old pal Kumar, Rushmore is one of those rare movies its tough to get tired of.
