MEXICO OR BUST

It’s OK to drink the water here

All summer long, the Queens Museum of Art was like a mini–cruise ship of sorts, allowing guests to experience cultures from Brazil to West Africa, India, and China through their Passport Fridays, an outdoor film, dance and music series. For the last leg of the trip, the season wraps up with an exploration of the vibrant sights and sounds of Mexico. The evening kicks off with a dance performance and musical show by Mariachi Oro de Mexico, founded by Jose Guadalupe, who got his start playing at the famous Plaza Garibaldi in Mexico City, and is followed by a screening of Under the Same Moon, which received a standing ovation at Sundance last year for its moving story of a nine-year-old boy who journeys to Los Angeles from Mexico to find his mother, an illegal worker in the U.S.
