More About
Silver Jews tours arent as rare as they were back in the day when David Berman conceived of his indie-rock supergroup as a studio-only proposition, and Bermans increasing fondness for the road has definitely had an effect on the bands music: Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea, which Drag City released in June, might be the Jews loosiest-goosiest effort yet, with slack-jawed country-rock numbers full of bullshit philosophy, reverb-drenched janglers about throwing thoughts like tomahawks, and a fake-calypso jam called Candy Jail complete with peppermint bars, peanut-brittle bunk beds, and marshmallow walls. The outfits current lineup features no members of Pavement (Silver Jews longtime sister band), but it does include Bermans wife Cassie, Pernice Brother Peyton Pinkerton, and Tony Crow of Lambchop. Openers Monotonix from Tel Aviv love playing riffs and hate being boring.
