EVR celebrates five years of eclectic listening

The hipster-beloved Internet radio station East Village Radio celebrates its fifth anniversary with a free all-day music festival whose eclectic lineup mirrors EVR’s anything-goes aesthetic. KRS-One hosts the proceedings, which is probably a better use of his domineering presence than having him perform. Acts scheduled to play include the Japanese sludge-metal outfit Boris; stoner-rap sweetheart Devin the Dude; local indie-rock bands Awesome Color, Vivian Girls, and High Places; L.A.-based Warp Records hotshot Flying Lotus; Icelandic folkie Ólöf Arnalds; and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, from Chicago. John Oliver of The Daily Show will also appear, and Anthology Film Archives will screen avant-garde works. The food comes from Frank, Supper, and Lil’ Frankie’s Pizza. Catch a ride to the South Street Seaport on EVR’s free shuttle, which departs from the station’s digs at 21 First Avenue.
Sat., Sept. 6, 1 p.m., 2008
