DANCE—DON’T WALK

March along with this punk-rock carnival

Ever wanted to run away and join the circus? You’ll get your chance today when Mexican choreographer Ofelia Loret de Mola brings her carnivalesque spectacle Available Space to the streets of downtown, inviting spectators to march—or dance—right alongside her performance troupe, Danscores. Kicking off in City Hall Park, the piece—jointly inspired by the game of chess and the cheap razzle-dazzle of a Mexican circus—features jugglers, acrobats, tightrope walkers, and a bearded lady performing among and atop the park’s chess tables. Afterwards, join in a parade to the Brooklyn Bridge, with beats provided by—what else?—a Spanish punk-rock marching band. The wackiness is all part of Celebrate Mexico Now 2008.
Mondays-Wednesdays, Fridays, 12:30 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Sept. 8. Continues through Sept. 15, 2008
