FOREVER YOUNG

Seductive portraits featured at the New Museum

Who knew the abrasive Liam Gallagher could come across as serene? That's the beauty and talent of modern-life painter Elizabeth Peyton, whose use of crisp and vibrant colors captures her subjects, like Gallagher, with a sort of tenderness and sensitivity. Peyton's Live Forever exhibition marks her first survey in the U.S., with more than 100 works created in the past 15 years. Her new form of pop art, which references 19th-century modernists like Édouard Manet and John Singer Sargent, features portraits of Kurt Cobain, Jarvis Cocker, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Matthew Barney, and Marc Jacobs.
