I love Willie Nelson because he’s hot—even at 70-plus years old. And over Shotgun Willie’s long, hallowed career, he’s written some damn magnificent songs, not just “Crazy” (although that would be enough for most). Above all, Brother Nelson endeared himself to me not just for sticking It to the Man, but for further being a true American by spotlighting the far out in outlaw country & western. We people who are darker than blue and redbone, too, remain ever grateful. Next time Our Willie takes the Apple, he’ll be runnin’ down the Devil’s music with Wynton Marsalis.
